Children spend at least five and a quarter hours at school each day, of which four and three quarters are devoted to lessons. The school 'curriculum' means everything that the child experiences during his/her time at school and includes activities beyond the classroom. We aim to provide a broad, balanced curriculum, matched to the individual abilities, experiences and interests of the children.
We provide a learning environment which encourages each child to develop, as fully as possible, his or her own potential. We want all children to experience successes and build self-confidence, regardless of ability and to know that they are making progress at Cherhill School.
The National Curriculum was introduced with the aim of setting out a clear, full and statutory entitlement to learning for all pupils. It tells schools what has to be taught and how to assess and report on pupil's progress. It should give teachers, pupils and parents a clear understanding of the skills and knowledge that young people will gain at school. It provides a framework for schools to develop a character rooted on their local communities.
The National curriculum consists of ten subjects plus Religious Education. The subjects are:
